I saw Janelle Monae perform on 2nd Ave.'s ELLEN show today and man, did she blow my mind away!!!! It's like pop, ska, and reggae all rolled into one!
She was awesome! And immediately, I googled her and found this on wikipedia:
Janelle Monáe (born December 1, 1985) is an American indie pop and soul singer, songwriter, dancer, and performer. She is currently signed to the Wondaland Arts Society, and Bad Boy/Atlantic Records.
Born Janelle Monáe Robinson, on December 1, 1985, a Kansas City, Kansas native, moved to New York to study theatre at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy. Her original plan was to pursue a career on Broadway, but she soon changed her mind and returned to her love for music, an art form which, according to her, has the potential to change the world.
Janelle Monae is unlike any artist I've ever seen. She has her own style and does her own thing. She doesn't even go with Lady Gaga wannabe types (like Christina Aguilera lately). She is just simply wonderful!
Janelle Monae will be part of a concert together this year together with Rhianna, Kelly Clarkson and Mary J. Blige.
